Hand over hand, you helped me stand.
You guided me, and sat me free.
And I walked, because of you.

Eye to eye, you taught me to try.
You spoke stern, and helped me learn.
And I talked because of you.

Foot over foot, as I held tightly.
You ran by me, and comforted me.
And I rode my bike because of you.

Behind the plate, you watched me play.
You showed like, even when it was a strike.
And I played ball because of you.

Tears in your eyes, You made me cry,
When you showed disappointment.
I gained maturity from you.

You sat proud, blended in with the crowd,
You looked up, when I looked down,
As I was handed my diploma.

You watch me now, and wonder how,
You could let go so quickly.
But you don't really fool me.

Quivering lips, show you've still a grip.
You're my dad, don't be sad.
My grip still hasn't loosened.
